About

Hello and Welcome to A Woolly History of the British Isles.

My name is Bev Newman and I am an independent historian and researcher, with specific interests in the British Wool Trade throughout history, textiles and the Medieval period. I’m currently working on projects exploring the role of the medieval monasteries in expanding the wool trade and studying the sheep farming practices of two minor noble families.

I have conducted research to a few authors who have books pending, mainly focused on wool and textiles, or local history.

I also enjoy creative needlework, especially knitting and crochet and specialise in working from patterns from the 19th and early 20th century, you can find out more about that here.
